Reading Intervention
Kinder-2nd Grade
Reading Intervention
Reading intervention is for those students who could use more time with building and practicing reading skills. Intervention is in small groups so students can get a little more one on one time. In these classes the instruction is monitored by assessments so the needs of the students are met at their levels. The students work on reading skills, then apply them with practice in reading and writing. We read poems, leveled decodable books and listen to read aloud stories. To teach Primary Intervention is very rewarding. When a student practices daily and doesn’t give up and one day they just sit up and say, “I get it!” that just puts a smile on my face. Sometimes it’s just building confidence in these young readers and off they go, to explore and learn.

Reading Intervention
In Ms. Fernandes’s reading intervention class we focus on making ourselves better readers. We work on skills that we need to catch up with and grade level standards as well. Every other week, we focus on phonics and basic reading skills and the next week, we work on grade level comprehension strategies with a thematic mentor text. We also make it fun be doing scavenger hunts, playing games and having interactive lessons. We look forward to having new students and enjoy working together.
